Another full day at the children's hospital. We visited the NICU - 30-50pts and only 6 nurses on a shift. they do have student nurses to help with the basics. In SCN there are about 50-70 pts and then 150 rooming in. The babies are so cute and look at you with their beautiful eyes. We have given all our lectures which went off well so now we can relax and watch the others do theirs. Last night we went to dinner at a Vietnamese restaurant that is staffed by disadvantaged street kids and orphans. The food was divine - one of the dishes I ordered was braised pieces of eggplant covered with finely chopped spring onion, garlic and sesame oil - it was so silky it just melted in your mouth. We are all pretty exhausted because every moment out on the streets your senses are being stimulated to the utmost. Walking along a street takes courage and stamina - the noise is massive, and the footpath is used for dining, sitting, sleeping, repair garage and storing excess products for the shops and on top of it all a motor bike will suddenly jump onto the footpath and park. all the Vietnamese we come in contact with are constantly telling us to watch our bags because after Tet the president releases alot of prisoners and so the crime rate goes up because tourists are easy pickings.

  1. And we complain about our workloads. Puts things in perspective doesn't it?
